Árshátið 2009

Last november, the 20th, we had the Árshátið, here in Hafralækjarskóli. This year the theme was The Beatles and the most important events in those years. The play " Bylting, bólur og bítl " written by Ásta Svavarsdóttir, presented the students in the acting and also in the band and choir.  It was a great moment for all of us, students and teachers team. Thank you very much all those who spent time reharsing and reharsing and made of that a beautiful moment.

Visiting de playschool "Barnaborg"

Last week 4 students of the music school were visiting the playschool to play for the children there.
Sigurjóna just started one month ago to learn how the play the flute and she allready played 2 songs in this concert.
Hermann and Hugrún were playing on the trumpet and Agnes played the clarinett.
After our concert the children were teaching us 2 dances which they learned with Enrice in the music-time in the playschool.
We had a lot of fun :)

 

The North Iceland Symphony Orchestra playing in Hafralækjarskóli!

On October the 13th of 2009, the Sinfóníuhljómsveit Norðurlands came to  play for the students here in Hafralækjarskóli. They showed us what is a String Quartet and performed songs like "The Entertainer- Scott Joplin", "Playful pizzicato, from Simple Symphony- Benjamin Britten", " Fairytale- Alexander Rybak", "Quartet nr.8 in C moll Op. 110- Dmitri Shostakovich", "Stephane Grapelli's jazz", "The Swan from the Carnival of Animals- Camille Saint-Saens" and "Eine kleine nachtmusik- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart". The kids enjoyed that very much!

 

 The musicians talked to the kids and showed them the instruments of the String Quartet.

 We also had the participation of students from Laugar!

 

Thank you for coming to the schools, Sinfóníuhljómsveit Norðurlands. This kind of event is not just entertaining, but interesting and very satisfying to the mind! We hope to see you again!!!

Marimbas

Here in Hafralækjarskóli we are continuing the great job of Robert Faulkner, who introduced the spirit of the marimbas in the school. Working with this kind of instruments is very satisfactory and stimulating because the students have to work together to make music. It means paying more atention to what each other is playing. Improve, to ge into the rhythm. The marimba's groups work very fine.! Today, we have 4 marimba's groups: Enrice, the blowing instrument teacher works with the youngest group (6 -7 years) or Yngsta Stig  in icelandic. Maurício and Kelly have 3 marimba's groups, the Yngsta stig (9 years), the Miðstig Marimba and  the Unglingastig Marimba. Now, they are learning and improving some african songs and some Maurício's compositions. We will add some recordings  here, very soon!
